# Raiding the coffers of VentraIP: One Year Later

## [Raiding the coffers of VentraIP: One Year Later](https://brendo.org/blog/ventraip-domain-fuckery_followup)

    4th Nov 2026 [domains](https://brendo.org/blog/tag:domains#body-wrapper) [sysadmin](https://brendo.org/blog/tag:sysadmin#body-wrapper) [black friday](https://brendo.org/blog/tag:black%20friday#body-wrapper) [follow up](https://brendo.org/blog/tag:follow%20up#body-wrapper)

About a year ago, myself, [Nate](https://wombwell.au) and [Tom](https://fluffyaussie.com/) noticed that VentraIP had a Black Friday deal going on:

> Free .au domains for the first year!

There was no limit on how many .au domains we could set up.

Nate went into a bit more detail on his blog, which you can find [here](https://wombwell.au/blog/aiding-the-coffers-of-ventraip)
***note**: as of this writing images aren’t loading correctly on his post. Nate is aware; apparently his S3 storage is having a bit of a sad* This has since been resolved; he appears to have switched content systems.

Nate mentioning VentraIP’s rebrand on [PhoneNet](https://www.phonenet.net) reminded me that we even did this to begin with. I figured I’d post a quick little follow up.

VentraIP is apparently raiding the coffers of Tom:

Nate… Doesn’t particularly care:

And I… ended up going slightly ham.

While drafting this post, I asked Tom and Nate whether either of them have made use of their domains.

- Tom: Sort of (he renewed his)
- Nate: half of his shopping spree were effectively shitposts directed at me.

Was it worth all the pissing around to get the domains? Not really.

Would we do it again?

- Me: **fuck yes**
- Tom: *didn’t get back to me prior to publication* **UPDATE**: Tom has provided the following response: “prob”
- Nate: “I’d do it again to just annoy Brendan with all the stupid domains I bought teasing him.”
